Make A Sundial By Entering Your Latitude Or Using Your Location!
Instructions: Select a sundial type above and use a latitude or your location to make
a sundial. Then print it out on a
blank white sheet of Letter or A4 paper (cardstock would work better, but it will work with regular paper
too). You can also print using instructions directly onto the sundial itself for the pocket sundial.
The pocket sundial sundial should print as a 6"x3" rectangle. Cut it out
along with the triangular
piece on the bottom (called the Gnomon). On the sundial, cut along the 2 red lines. Fold the sundial along
the middle to make a
right angle. Then insert the flaps of the Gnomon through the cut slot and fold them backwards. Tape or
glue them to the back. Place the Sundial flat and level, with the Gnomon (triangle) pointing toward True
North if you're in the Northern hemisphere, or True South for the Southern hemisphere.
The bigger sundial should print as a part of a circle with a "slice" taken
out. Cut around the outer
edge of the Sundial diagram. Fold the center vertical line up, and the 2 True North or True South lines down
to create a triangle (called the Gnomon) that stands vertically from the horizontal paper sundial face. Make
sure the Gnomon stands vertically, at right angles to the sundial face.
Place the Sundial flat and level, with the Gnomon (triangle) pointing toward True North if you're in the
Northern hemisphere, or True South for the Southern hemisphere.
